Which Goa Airport is better to fly into?
Are you wondering if you should fly into GOX or GOI for your Goa trip? Read on!
When planning a trip to the beautiful state of Goa, one of the first questions that arises is which airport to fly into. Goa is served mainly by Dabolim Airport, but with the new Mopa Airport, travelers now have another option.
I’m sharing some information about each of the 2 Goa airports to help you decide which airport is better suited for your trip to Goa: Dabolim Airport or Mopa Airport (aka Manohar International Airport).
Which Goa airport is better: Mopa or Dabolim?
The decision on which airport to fly into depends largely on your itinerary in Goa.
For travelers focusing on South Goa or wanting access to the state capital, Panaji, and its surrounding attractions, Dabolim Airport is the better choice due to its proximity to these areas.
If your trip is centered around the beaches and nightlife of North Goa, flying into Mopa Airport (Manohar International Airport) would be more convenient, minimizing travel time upon arrival and departure.
First, decide your destination within Goa if you plan on visiting North Goa or South Goa, then pick your airport.
About Dabolim Airport (GOI)
Location: Dabolim Airport is located in the South of Goa, approximately 30 kilometers from the state capital, Panaji. It is closer to the popular tourist destinations in South Goa like Margao, Vasco da Gama, and the beaches of Palolem and Colva.
Facilities: As the sole airport serving Goa for many years, Dabolim Airport has a range of facilities including ATMs, currency exchange, cafes, and car rental services. However, space and facilities can sometimes feel constrained during peak travel seasons.
Connectivity: Dabolim offers excellent connectivity to both domestic and international destinations. It’s well-connected by road, with taxis and rental vehicles readily available for transfers to various parts of Goa. The airport also benefits from being relatively close to major train stations in Margao and Vasco da Gama.
Pros:
✅ Closer to South Goa’s beaches and tourist spots.
✅ Good connectivity with major cities in India and some international flights.
✅ Immediate access to public transport and taxi services.
Cons:
❌ Can get crowded, especially during the tourist season.
❌ Limited space and amenities compared to international standards.
About Mopa Airport (GOX)
Location: Mopa Airport, also known as Manohar International Airport, is located in the North of Goa. It’s relatively new and aims to significantly improve the accessibility of northern Goa, including destinations like Calangute, Baga, and Anjuna.
Facilities: Designed as a modern facility, Mopa Airport is expected to offer a wide range of amenities including more extensive dining, shopping options, and smoother passenger flow. The airport is supports a larger volume of passengers with new modern facilities.
Connectivity: While Mopa aims to enhance connectivity to North Goa, its distance from the central and southern parts of the state means travelers heading to these areas might face longer transfer times. The airport is anticipated to have good road links to major parts of North Goa and potentially better manage the influx of tourists during peak seasons.
Pros:
✅ Modern facilities and potentially a more comfortable travel experience.
✅ Closer to North Goa’s beaches and party zones.
✅ Designed to handle a higher volume of passengers efficiently.
Cons:
❌ Farther from Central and South Goa, which might increase transfer times and costs.

What is difference between GOI and GOX airport?
It’s important to note that Goa is a state, not a city. So depending on where in the state your travels take you, one airport might be closer to your destination. Both airports are international and serve a number of airlines.
GOI is the airport code for Dabolim, and it’s a good option if you’re going to South Goa or the capital city of Panjim.
GOX is Mopa Airport (Manohar International Airport) and is a good choice if you’re going to North Goa.
How do I get from the airport to my accommodation?
Taxis: Pre-paid taxi services are available at the airport. Prices are fixed, so you know the cost upfront.
Rental Cars and Bikes: Several agencies offer rental services if you prefer to drive yourself around Goa.
Bus Service: Limited bus services connect the airport with major towns and cities, but they might not be convenient for all destinations.
