Lakshadweep, an archipelago of 36 islands, offers some of the most stunning and unspoiled beaches in India. With its coral atolls, turquoise waters, and rich marine life, Lakshadweep is a paradise for honeymooners.

If you dream of the Maldives, but are on a budget, check out these islands. Lakshadweep is more an off the beaten path beach destination. You’ll find the same beautiful beaches as the Maldives, but not the same luxury resorts. While the hotels are more minimalistic, that is part of the untouched charm of these islands.

The 4 most popular islands are Agatti, Bangaram, Kadmat, and Kavaratti.

Agatti Island is known for its clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. The island also has a beautiful white sand beach perfect for relaxation and sunbathing.

The most convenient way to get to Lakshadweep is by air. The main gateway to the islands is the Agatti Aerodrome on Agatti Island. Air India operates regular flights from Kochi to Agatti, with a flight duration of about 1.5 hours. Book early because flights are limited and fill up quickly.

Upon arrival at Agatti Island, you can reach other islands by helicopter services or high-speed boats. I visited a handful of resorts in and around Shimla when I was wedding venue hunting. Not only are there great options for wedding venues, but some of the resorts set a bit outside of busy Shimla are perfect for honeymooners.

Situated at an altitude of 2,200 meters, Shimla boasts pleasant weather, picturesque landscapes, and a rich cultural heritage. While the town itself offers things to do like walking the popular mall road, I recommend getting a bit out of town to properly enjoy the beauty of Shimla. The town itself is quite crowded so if you are seeking a more peaceful honeymoon, checkout the resorts outside of town.

Out of the main cities and towns in Rajasthan, I recommend Udaipur for a honeymoon because the landscape is the most peaceful, with the Aravalli Hills and serene lakes such as Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake.

πŸ“Taj Lake Palace: For the ultimate Udaipur royal stay, I recommend Taj Lake Palace. This iconic hotel was once a royal palace. All guests arrive via boat and are greeted with traditional music and flower showers, setting the tone for a magical honeymoon experience. The impeccable Taj hospitality comes with a steep price tag at this special location – but nothing beats staying an opulent royal palace that looks like it’s floating in the middle of a lake.

πŸ“Hotel Lakend: If you want lake views and royal vibes but don’t want to break the bank by staying in the Taj Lake Palace, then I recommend Hotel Lakend.

πŸ“Taj Fateh Prakash Palace Udaipur: For a luxury stay with the amazing Taj service that doesn’t have as hefty of a price tag as the Taj Lake Palace, you can book your honeymoon at Taj Fateh Prakash Palace, which provides stunning lake views and is only steps away from City Palace.

14. Munnar & Alleppey, Kerala

The beautiful state of Kerala is a mix of tranquil backwaters, lush hill stations, and pristine beaches, making it a top pick for honeymooners. I paired these two locations together as I think a trip to both Munnar and Alleppey provides the perfect mix of sight-seeing, activities, and relaxation.

Munnar’s tea plantations and misty hills are perfect for couples seeking peace and natural beauty. Don’t miss a visit to Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. I got to see a few Tahr up close as they were crossing the walking trail on my visit.

The best time for a honeymoon in Munnar is from October to March when the weather is cool and pleasant.

After you enjoy the splendor of Munnar, head to Alleppey to rent a houseboat and glide through the backwaters, enjoying personalized meals and the picturesque landscape.
