The BEST Places to Visit in Udaipur in 2 days

Are you looking for places to visit in Udaipur in 2 days? Read on!

The city of lakes is a dreamy Rajasthan destination that stole my heart. I am lucky enough to have visited Rajasthan three times, taking in the sights of four different cities (Jaipur, Jodphur, Pushkar, and Udaipur). Out of all of the them, Udaipur is my personal favorite. The spiritual vibes there give a sense of calm that is often hard to feel on travels in India.

Places to Visit in Udaipur in 2 days

If you only have two days in Udaipur because it’s just one stop on your India itinerary, then be sure to see the below top sights.

Tour City Palace

Start at the City Palace, Udaipur’s iconic landmark, to get a glimpse glimpse into the opulence of the Mewar dynasty. This expansive historical complex overlooks Lake Pichola with nice views of the city and the lake.

Be sure to reserve a few hours to properly tour the property as it is quite large and well worth taking your time to enjoy and snap some cool photos of the colorful rooms and intricate corridors.

Visit Jagdish Temple

Head to the Jagdish Temple, a short walk from the City Palace. This Indo-Aryan temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and boasts remarkable carved details.

Bagore Ki Haveli

Later, make your way to Bagore Ki Haveli by the lakefront. It’s a historic haveli turned museum showcasing Rajasthani culture, with puppet shows and folk dances in the evening.

You can catch the traditional Rajasthani Dharohar dance performance usually starting around 7 PM at Bagor Ki Haveli.

Post-show, enjoy dinner at one of the lakeside restaurants. The ambiance and the view of the lit-up City Palace and Lake Pichola are magical.

Boat Ride on Lake Pichola

Take the municipal boat from the small jetty just beyond City Palace across the water to Jag Mindar Island. We bought our tickets at the ticket booth outside the City Palace and headed over the dock just before sunset.

There’s a luxury (and expensive) hotel on the island, but you can also take a stroll around and grab something to eat. Though, we thought the dinner at the restaurant was overpriced. You don’t need to plan for long on the island and can easily take another boat back in an hour.

There are also private boats you can book with for a tour of the lake if you don’t want to stop at Jag Mindar.

Visit Fateh Sagar Lake

Since Udaipur is the city of lakes, you’ll want to see more than just Lake Pichola. Visit Fateh Sagar Lake on your second day of exploring Udaipur.

You can also hire a boat on Fateh Sagar Lake to take you to one of the three islands. The largest island is Nehru Park which has a garden you can visit, with a restaurant and small zoo for kids. The second island has has a public park you can stroll around. While the last island has Udaipur Solar Observatory, but that is not open to the public or tourists.

If you don’t have time for a boat ride to visit one of the islands, you can drive around its circumference (Moti Magri Road, Fateh Sagar Drive and Rani Road) and take in the tranquil views of the lake and the surrounding Aravalli hills.

Sunset drinks with a lake view

Enjoy a sundowner with a view of the lake. The hotel (Moustache Udaipur Luxuria) I stayed at had a nice rooftop with food and drinks with a sweeping view of the lake.

There are plenty of places to grab a drink and admire the view from. See five of my suggestions below.

Places to Eat with a Lake View in Udaipur

Check out these spots for some relaxation with a view.

Rainbow Restaurant

This restaurant has a lakeside terrace perfect for a casual meal any time of the day. It’s tucked away in the labyrinth of lanes in Udaipur but opens up to a charming view of Lake Pichola.

Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel

The rooftop is a great spot to grab drinks at with beautiful views. You can skip the food as I don’t think it’s worth the prices.

Jaiwana Haveli (Lake Facing Hotel)

This is another hotel rooftop restaurant. You don’t need to stay here to enjoy a meal and the views! The food is delicious and well-priced, with great vegetarian options.

Ambrai Restaurant at Hotel Amet Haveli

Be sure to make a reservation for a meal here ahead of time. The restaurant is known for its romantic ambiance and traditional Rajasthani dishes. Try the Laal Maas if you’re up for something spicy.

Savage Garden Udaipur

Don’t miss this unassuming Italian restaurant from the road. You’ll have to climb several flights of stairs but the rooftop restaurant views are worth it.

Where To Stay In Udaipur

📍Boutique option: Little Garden Guest House is super cute hidden gem! Especially for the price. Next time I am in Udaipur I definitely plan to stay here. It’s centrally located and family run.

📍Mid-range option: I can recommend Moustache Udaipur Luxuria Guest House as I have personally stayed there. The rooms are nice, plus the rooftop has a great view of Lake Pichola, where you can enjoy a drink as you watch the sunset. Be aware that there is no elevator here.

📍Luxury option: If it’s in your budget, a stay at Taj Lake Palace makes your visit to Udaipur a dream. Floating in the middle of Lake Pichola, it can only be reached by boat and exemplifies the romantic vibes of the city. It’s a former summer palace of Rajasthan royalty. With the excellent service that comes with staying at a Taj property I’m sure you’d be treated like royalty as well.

When To Visit Udaipur

Winter is the best time to visit Udaipur, between October and March. I visited in May and it was quite hot but hotels were less expensive and the sites were not as crowded.

If you time a visit with Diwali (which usually takes place at the end of October or the beginning of November), you’ll get the added experience of the city of lakes brightly lit up for the celebrations.

How To Get To Udaipur

✈️ Flying: There is a domestic airport called Maharana Pratap with regular flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, and a few other Indian cities.

🚗 Driving: Udaipur is about 7 hours and 400 km from Jaipur by road. You can hire a private car to make the trip.

🚆 Train: You can easily take the train from Jaipur too. Look on MakeMyTrip.com for route recommendations.

TL;DR: Best Places to Visit in Udaipur in 2 days

Two days in Udaipur is tight but it is enough time to see the key sights and experience the serenity of the city of lakes. Don’t miss City Palace, Lake Pichola, and Fateh Sagar Lake. Be sure to enjoy a drink with a view while waiting for the colorful sunset to light up the hills over the lakes.
