Collage highlighting the natural wonders of Northeast India: (1) A serene moment with a woman sitting by cascading waterfalls, surrounded by lush greenery, (2) A dramatic view of a towering waterfall plunging into a deep valley, (3) Scenic rolling hills under a bright blue sky dotted with fluffy clouds, (4) A suspension bridge over crystal-clear emerald waters, framed by dense foliage, and (5) A double-decker living root bridge in a tranquil forest setting.

Northeast India, a region in the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, has unparalleled natural beauty and unique indigenous cultures. I’ve spent a lot of time in Meghalaya, the “Abode of Clouds,” where my husband grew up. Misty hills, cascading waterfalls, and living root bridges create a magical landscape, especially during the monsoons.

Some of the oldest caves in the world are in the area and this region is a perfect offbeat travel destination in India.

Here’s my personal recommendations for planning your adventure in this enchanting corner of India! If you’d like my help planning a custom itinerary, reach out here.
